Competitions

A number of photographic competitions are held annually under the auspices of the SACC. Because the SACC is a region of the IPF the national rules are used for all competitions. The main competitions during the year are as follows but note that the first two are run directly by the IPF.

IPF National Audio Visual (AV) Championships
The National Audio Visual (AV) Championship is held each year in October. The event is organised and run by a dedicated IPF sub committee, and the competition is at a different locations each year hosted by the local club. Every level of AV worker from novice to advanced is catered for and there is also a Club project category.

IPF National Shield
The National Shield is a National inter-club competition, open to the non-advanced members of all IPF clubs. The competition takes place in November and the venue varies from year to year. Each Club can submit panels of eight images in colour prints and monochrome prints.

SACC Print and Slide Competition
This competition is held to coincide with the SACC AGM usually at the end of November or early December. It is an individual competition. The best overall image is awarded the Seamus Scullane Memorial Trophy.

Nature Competition
The regional round of this competition is now held every year in January. The finals are held in March
There are, unlike all other competitions, only two categories in it, i.e colour prints and colour slides.

SACC Annual Competition and Exhibition
This competition is usually held in February. It is an inter-club competition in which each club can enter up to three panels of ten images in slides, colour prints, and monochrome prints. This competition is also the regional round of the IPF National League (sometimes called the National Photography Finals or National Photography Championships). One club can qualify for the finals for every four affiliated clubs in the region. The national finals are usually held in April or May. As of 2005 only the Colour Print panel and Monochrome print panels are taken into account for the National Photography Finals.
There is now a separate IPF National Print and Slide Competition but SACC has retained the Slide panel in this Regional Competition for SACC purposes only.
